Believe it or not, we miss football. I never would have called myself a Packers "fan" compared to many of my Green Bay friends, but I was pretty disappointed that we couldn't find the Packer game this past week on TV. However, with our free channel for September we get to watch Rugby. WHAT THE HELL?! It's like football and soccer combined without any pads or obvious rules. L decided he wasn't interested in football all on his own, but if he ever plays rugby it will be over my dead body (and possibly his, by the looks of it).Community
After lots of thought, I've finally pinpointed it. We miss community. We don't really have a community here. We have each made a couple of friends, so that's a start. In Lansing we had a great neighborhood, and a great neighborhood community (although there was that one republican lobbyist...). In Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay we had co-workers, neighbors, and the people at our churches, who became our second families. In Traverse City we had our actual families.
The church we attend is too big. There, I've said it. Be careful what you wish for. No, we don't have to be involved in several committees, or make sure we bring a crock-pot full of soup every third Sunday of the month. Those of you who attend the UU in Green Bay will be glad to know that all those joys and concerns that seem to go on and on.... are worth listening to.
Traffic
Yes, we miss the traffic (lack of it, really) in Green Bay. There's really no rhyme or reason to the traffic backups here, except that you can't get on or off the island easily or quickly between 8-10am and 2:30 and 6 (and that's even pushing it) pm.
As of last week, there is another family living in our house. I'm glad the house isn't still empty, and that there will be kids playing in the sandbox and on the swings. L is not so delighted by this thought. I did point out that he traded in his sandbox for an in-ground pool. I think he'd take his sandbox back in a heartbeat.
We DON'T miss the bird-sized mosquitoes that lived in our back yard.
The sandbox.
